Perfectionism

I have a problem. It's a problem that I know I have but yet I'm not quite sure how to fix it. It's called being a perfectionist. I'm not an extreme perfectionist. What do I always need perfect, though? My room is ALWAYS clean and organized. That's not a problem though. What creates the problem is that I'm trying to be a perfect human being; worker; citizen; whatever.

How is this a problem though? It's obvious. Nothing's perfect. It's strange that I am this way, considering my mom has always literally said the phrase "nothing's perfect; everything could always use improvement" ever since I was a little kid.

Let's look at the workplace. I am a waiter and I strive to be perfect. Call me lame for caring about my job, but as a waiter, caring about your job can increase the amount of money you get. It's called getting tipped. It's true that the more effort you put into a work atmosphere like that, the more money you will make. Being a perfectionist can really pay off here. Cause if you do everything right and the way it's supposed to be, it works out. But what happens if you don't? In my case, I get frustrated. After mistakenly dropping something as small as a cup on the ground, I can't get it out of my head that I've done something like that. Fortunately though I haven't had much of this problem at work lately.

But it's not just work, it's life in general. Let's admit, you wouldn't mind having the perfect look, the perfect voice, or the perfect style, would you? I mention voice because outside of work, all I do is music. It started with guitar and has moved on to several other things, such as writing my own music. More recently, it's moved to singing. I love doing it but (yes, there's a but) I get the feeling that my voice isn't perfect. I realize that it's not as good as Paul McCartney, Bret Michaels, or any singer for that matter.

One of my friends (who unfortunately moved faaar away) always used to purposely mess everything up in my room just to help me get over it haha.

But like my mom said, nothing's perfect.

  2. a wise person once said that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". I think that the same could be said about perfection.
